Adventure Training is a key part of the Air Cadet syllabus. Fancy going skiing? Maybe instead you’d be up for climbing instead? No matter your interests, there’s always something to get stuck into.
This is the place where team effort really matters - you’ll build new friendships, and learn to rely on the other people you’re with to get the job done. It’s also a great place to show off your leadership qualities!
Whatever your personal tastes, nothing is compulsory. There is a wide range of activities for you to get stuck into, so if caving isn’t for you, perhaps mountain biking could be! No matter what you choose to do, you’ll be supervised by qualified instructors who will ensure you get the most out of it.
Between local activities and visits to camps, you’ll have the opportunity to go kayaking, dragon boat racing, tobogganing, windsurfing, climbing, or skiing, just to name a few.
At 163 Squadron, in the last couple of years, we have taken our cadets to Tallington Lakes in Lincolnshire for water-based activities, and gone to Capel Curig in Snowdonia for mountain and cliff related activities.
Adventure training isn’t just about trying new activities - it’s about pushing the limits you thought you had, and discovering what you’re made of. Whether you’re out navigating up mountains, or trying out a new water sport, you’ll develop resilience, problem-solving skills, and a greater sense of confidence.
More than that, it's also about bringing your team together, forging friendships and building trust as you tackle challenges side by side with your peers. No matter the activity, you’ll grow stronger together while learning skills that go far beyond the great outdoors.
What’s more, these adventures often take place in some of the most stunning locations across the UK. From the peaks of Snowdonia to the waters of local lakes, you’ll be making memories that last a lifetime.
